Baking Breads

I finally decided to give the breadmaker a workout again during the last week. A plain white loaf  was the initial warm up. The flavour was good and the texture wonderful even though the appearance was a bit wayward. PC said he won't be able to eat shop bread again!

This was followed a couple of days later by a fresh  herb and carraway loaf.  The fresh herbs were home grown coriander and lemon thyme and I had some dill, that I dried, from when I purchased fresh dill for another recipe. I will be making this bread again as it's a real treat.

Today was another white loaf but I baked it using  the preset timer just to familiarise myself with the procedure and see if the loaf tasted as nice as the first one. It did and it wasn't as wayward looking. Must be to do with the liquids being given a chance to slowly soak into the dry ingredients before mixing. We used it for our picnic lunch sandwiches. The bacon, onion and cheese pizza scrolls were handmade and they were well received. PC likes all the new taste offerings :).

  2. I agree you can't beat the taste of homemade bread. Once you've had it you realise just how much tastier it is over purchased bread.

    I had a bread machine years ago which no longer exists. It did get a good workout during its life though. I need to invest in a new one. I make Rhonda's rolls by hand and add Vegemite for our daughter and Vegemite and Cheese for our son and hubby. They are so good.

    Your herb bread looks perfect too by the way. Oh and those pizza scrolls very moreish.

    1. I'd love to know how you go baking sourdough in a breadmaker as I haven't done it yet. I need to start another sourdough plant as I let my previous one expire.

  4. PC must be in heaven, all this baking going on...you know what they say...the way to a man's heart and all that....

    You could also try making/mixing the dough in your bread maker then baking it in the oven (either in a covered pot or just freeform on an oven tray lined with paper. You can get amazingly crunchy crusts this way. But your bread maker seems to be doing a grand job also!

  5. I LOVE bread baking. But I can no longer eat the dang stuff as it converts immediately to fat for me - so sad :-(

  7. I love homemade bread!

    I make two loaves of sourdough (by hand)a week for us here. But like Mr HM says it makes you fat!! That is really annoying. Guess if I do some more strenuous exercise to counteract the bread eating, that would be okay. I hope so anyway :)

  8. I must start another sourdough plant. I've baked wholemeal loaves and added extras to white like linseeds, oats, covered the crust with poppyseeds etc. I'm controlling how much bread I eat though!
