FNSI – Oven Glove

I wasn’t going to post this as I did just as much unsewing as sewing, it’s still not bound and I’m debating whether to finish it at all. Then I thought that it happens to all of us and might make someone else who has trouble sewing oven gloves/mitts a bit less disappointed when theirs goes awry.

This is the ‘nice’ view

Look, good fit!

However.......see the unsewn pieces?

I think I’ll sew the next one up a little differently so there’s not so many thick seams at corners and curves.

Hope everyone had a productive FNSI J.

Cheers,
Robyn

  1. Well, it certainly looks good, Robyn. Can't you just go back in and re-sew that curve to catch the fabric in? It might make it a bit shorter, though? Those kinds of things happen to me, especially when I'm making a bag with lots of outside pockets. All that fabric and batting get so thick that I sometimes don't catch it all in the seam, and then end up doing a lot of ripping out! Guess that is just a part that goes along with it, eh? Don't give up because those are awesome pot holders!

  2. You did a nice job. Even with the open seam. Hugs

  3. That can be your "pro-type" - a good way to make notes to improve on an idea/design for next time. It looks like you do not have to make too many design improvements -nice and thick and a good length.

  4. It's great that you posted it, I don't believe in just posting the good stuff - but I suppose that's obvious from my blog. I'd have gone for a larger seam allowance as it's so bulky

  5. Oh yes - been there, done that, too many times to admit! It does look great, though - can you just go back and restitch where the fabric didn't catch?

  6. It turned out looking just great. Nice and bright for the kitchen too. I like it that you posted both versions!

  8. That is so annoying, Rob!- could you turn it in and handsew with some strong thread?? It looks good otherwise- even as a handpuppet! LOL.

  9. Dear Robyn Thank you so much for visiting my blog, and for the congratulations on my SUPER win!! I still can't believe it! I am happy to see that we can retry things, and I am sure it will have a great outcome! I want to try the patchwork binding as soon as I get the Bernina! Have a great day, Christel

  10. This is soooo cool! I was going to ask where you got the pattern when I realised "I can do that!" What a neat idea, thanks for showing the pitfalls.
